dommymedia: Hello, Patrick-san
Galileo Academy: who is this?
dommymedia: oops, that is Japanese, not Chinese
Galileo Academy: alan?
dommymedia: yes
Galileo Academy: sorry i just booted another mac and got my chats confused
Galileo Academy: lol
dommymedia: bipolar
Galileo Academy: it would be
Galileo Academy: di laoshi
dommymedia: what’s up?
Galileo Academy: well i talked to the director of the bay area writing project, my boss in my OOTHER bipolar job
Galileo Academy: about MLX and gave her a brief look see
Galileo Academy: she ain’t particularly tech adroit but is tech supportive
Galileo Academy: and she was in love at first sight
Galileo Academy: i know your open sourcing is a ways down the road
Galileo Academy: i’m just wondering if there is a “trial” site where i
can show her how it might work for a writing project consultants
learning objects?
dommymedia: Not yet.
dommymedia: It is my goal to have something like that in 4 weeks or so.
Galileo Academy: i thought i saw a dummy site. or maybe it was an online demo?
dommymedia: There is a presentation, an hour long Breeze thing, that is the whole overview of the MLX and???
dommymedia: There is a short one that is a narrated walk through of where people post their items (inside the Loading dock)
dommymedia: The latter is http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/show/league2003/tour/
dommymedia: I will be blogging maybe today the first announcement
related to openMLX, but if anything is available, it will not be until
after the June 15-19 NMC conference.
dommymedia: We are still sorting through trying to figure out how to re-code some parts of it
Galileo Academy: were are thinking August
dommymedia: Finding out where all the scotch tape and rubber bands hold it together
Galileo Academy: and the reason I am asking is bec. we have a line on some money
Galileo Academy: not a lot
dommymedia: I could help you get going, I am around July and August
Galileo Academy: but maybe something that we can send your way to get some support and show appreciation
Galileo Academy: i have kern county possibly willing to give us a server to play with
Galileo Academy: i just want the director and bryan and erin at kern to
see what it is that MLX does that might be of value to us
Galileo Academy: i mean i see it clearly but these folks are not techies or not teachers, one or the other
dommymedia: I really do not need to get any $$, and since some of our
colleges have Writing Project efforts, maybe there is a tie???. I am
not ready to commit until I have a better sense how this prototype will
go
dommymedia: I understand the need for a concrete example, and we can
look at making an early prototype for you on our server if it helps..
dommymedia: The hook might be showing how you can feed syndication into other sites, etc
dommymedia: Or create other systems for submitting content that can feed into the MLX
Galileo Academy: the syndica is the brilliance of it!
Galileo Academy: even carol understood that in its basic form
dommymedia: Yeah, but that is another piece that needs to be coded differently???. but it is a key element
dommymedia: You will be able to syndicate newest, by your defined
categories, personal collections, special collections, and any search
results???
Galileo Academy: ok so i will use the online demos you ref-ed above to
build some interest and understanding. and then we play it by ear. but
i do want you to know
dommymedia: Cool, you should also use the big MLX demo: http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/show/nmc0304/
Galileo Academy: that the money is something i get testy about. i hate
when educators do great work and don’t get acknowledgement.
Galileo Academy: and the powers that be
dommymedia: $ != motivation
Galileo Academy: don’t really acknowledge unless there is a $ attacched.
dommymedia: I like getting comments in my blog
Galileo Academy: i know it is not your motivation. i want the “leaders”to get motivated and they always seem to need to pay in order to
understand the value.
dommymedia: kewl, gota go
Galileo Academy: and links from other people’s I hope!
Galileo Academy: LOL
